P600 - getting her road worthy!

My newly acquired 1977 P600 Grumman Olson stepvan is in need of some TLC to get her road worthy again, hoping some experts can chime in and give input regarding parts availability. Tires/wheels I am getting under control I think but hoping to find out about brakes, suspension and steering, etc.. Are these common parts or will I have trouble sourcing things? Unfortunately, parts places around here are having a heck of a time finding P/Ns for this thing. Surely it's not that uncommon, it's a Hostess truck! My first order of business is to find out why the rear wheel on the drivers side is locked up. It sat in the previous owners yard for 5 years so I assume a stuck parking brake but since there is snow on the ground and it's 8 degrees, I'll wait to check into that. I just want to make sure parts are available before I start sinking money. Thx

You are better to try places that deal with semi's, such as Truckpro. Years ago I bought brand new wheel cylinders and spring kits there. Napa is a little more friendly toward chassis of that size too

Being that size truck, probably has parking brake on the back of the tranny, not in rear brakes. UNLESS they used 1 ton axles under it.

No such thing as a P600, (EDIT) Yes there is.

1973/79 Ford HEAVY Truck Parts Catalog is available on a CD from hipoparts.com.

First three digits of "warranty No" are P60. And on the same ID tag is states for "type/G.V.W" that it is a P602. On the other number plate, it states for ID # 88453 FKB*****. The 77 Ford Truck Shop manual lists P600 (says code P60 DSO is a P600 and code P50 is a P500) so I assume it exists ???

Just pulled out the title.. according to it, the VIN is P60GV067450. Year is 1977, make is Ford and description is PARP600. GVWR is 14100lbs. Also, it lists no codes on the ID plate for trans and axle but does have a DSO # of 130535. The engine is a 300 I6 and the tranny is a 4 sp manual.

I took a peak at the rear axle and it is huge with the square tubes; looks to be a Rockwell F106 maybe. Will have to check more on the brakes, have not crawled under it since buying it due to weather and slushy ground.

Appreciate any and all input.. I will need it

I wouldn't be afraid of sticking some money into it, can't be too hard to find parts for it. I was hoping it still had WonderBread decals on it. Napa has been helpful for my 72 F700.

P60 = P600 Parcel Delivery Chassis (DSO order only).

G = 300 Heavy Duty 1V I-6.

V = Kentucky Truck Assembly Plant.

O67450 = 1977.

DSO 130535:

13 = New York City NY Ford District Sales Office, where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from.

0535 = Domestic Special Order number. The truck was ordered special by the original purchaser, not "bought off the lot."

Info source: 1973/79 Ford HEAVY Truck Parts Catalog.

For additional info, contact martiauto.com as Marti has ALL the original 1967/79 Passenger Car/Truck/Bronco/Econoline records.

From the 77 shop manual, lists G as the 300 for the parcel. The engine is for sure a 300, I have physically checked it. The P600 is really hard to find information for because apparently parts manuals don't list this model... not quite sure why. Maybe not that many were sold, not too sure.

Look at my posts #4 & #10 again. I had an epiphany, as it dawned on dumb me that all 600 series trucks, including P600's, are listed in the 1973/79 Ford HEAVY (not Light) Truck Parts Catalog.

Rear axle is a Rockwell D140, found the ID plate on it. I assume this should be easy enough to get parts for (brakes are my concern). Since this had sat for many years, I am thinking that the shoes and drum are locked up on drivers side and this is why the wheel wont turn. To be honest, I am nervous about messing with it until I get those tires/wheels off of it though. They are cracked horribly and I have no idea what the air pressure in them is. Since these are the lock ring style wheels, I don't want to start monkeying with them. I guess I have heard too many stories about wheels and lock rings taking peoples heads off - I don't even want to look at them wrong Front beam axle I could not find an ID tag but assume it to be standard Eaton/Spicer unit that would be easy to source parts for. Anyone know? Tranny I assume is a T19 or NP435 so not concerned about parts there.. will verify when weather is warmer.
