I have a stock F350 6spd diesel that is surging badly. I thought it was fuel issue and still do. No codes. The issue is intermediately at driving speed or idle cutting out and surging. Acting like it is running out of fuel. I have changed the fuel filter and ran an additive to the fuel.
Any help or ideas of what could cause it. Is there just the one fuel filter on the truck?
There is just one fuel filter on the truck(That is easily serviced and intended for service) There are screens inside the fuel tank mixing chamber that can become clogged as well as a screen on the inlet of the fuel pump.
So you are not getting an "SES" light.
I would lean first towards a CPS, as they are about the only thing I would just "throw" at the truck without further diagnosis.
Then I would want to view live data, and observe ICP and IPR as a faulty IPR or wiring issue can cause some of these symptoms.
If you feel as though you are actually running out of fuel, at a minimum a temporary fuel pressure gauge plumbed into the fuel bowl drain will help to see that.
