oh, and if someone can recommend a place to purchase one, that would be good. it seems PHP's support is mediocre at best, so a shop with good customer support would be ideal

Tony Wildman at Total Diesel Performance is one example, and I think Matt at Gearhead has them too. [LINK]

I am still Very happy with the Hydra & Tony's tunes. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat. The Hydra is a great platform - I wish this would have been available 5 years ago. It was so much easier to upgrade my tunes when we installed the 160/80 injectors & S366 turbo. Tony e-mailed me 4 new programs, all I had to do was plug the USB cable into my laptop & install them on the chip. It was nice not having to remove the chip.................and so much better than having to mail the chip out like before.

http://www.totaldieselperformance.co...hydra-chip.htm

I'll be buying one for my F-250 as well.........

X2 on all that except I used Matt. If you read Diesel Power, Matt has been the tuner of choice for several of the featured rigs and some of the competition rigs. Either way I don't think you can go wrong.

Don't forget the vehicle security tune .....you probably already know about it but for others reading this thread that don't:

You download or buy a NOSTART tune (I got mine from Tony at Total Diesel Performance) and put it on the chip. When you leave the vehicle, set the selector switch to the location of the NOSTART tune (I use #15, but you can use any position).

Turn the vehicle off, remove the selector switch and stick it in your pocket. There's not starting the vehicle..............

You can do the same with the Valet tunes (or any other tune) that PHP offers, that way the vehicle speed is limited to the speed on the tune. When my daughter drives the Excursion - it's won't go over 45.....

Hello I have a few questions on canned/Custom Tunes and Chips.

First off I have 2003 Ford F250 SD Short bed Crew Cab w/ 7.3l D and 225k miles. Setup is stock except for S&B 75-5062 Intake and MBRP 4 inch Aluminized Turbo Back Single Exhaust & 317/75/R16 tires (34") on stock rims. I am currently running an Edge Evolution "EEF1000" programmer (Gameboy type) @ lvl3 Extreme +100HP. I will soon be adding a EGT gauge! (being delivered now) Most Towing is currently done with 3000 lbs,@ lvl1 Tow +60HP (may change in the future). Most towing will be Hwy, regular driving will be mixed City 30% Hwy 70%

I have been kicking around other tuners/ programmers. I like the idea of the change on the fly tunes...I haven't had any issues with the Edge at all just looking for something with more options (more performance and alternately an economy tune for when I'm not playing)

I have been looking closely at the DP F5 and after talking to Jody they recommended these tunes: stock, drive-thru, 80hp tow, 60hp daily, 80hp daily, 120hp race, & 140hp aggressive.

How much different are the PHP Hydra library tunes compared to the DP tunes on a relatively stock truck?
Are the library tunes from PHP pay per use or a starting point at which you experiment and build from?

Thanks!

When you buy the Hydra you get access to PHP's Library of tunes. There are HUNDREDS of tunes in there, most PCM codes have enough to load the chip up twice...

$375 lets you load one tune, or 15 tunes. $375 comes with a built in no start and stock settings.

$375 includes the switch, chip, cable and everything needed to program the chip.

Bill is the Grandfather of 7.3 tuning, one of the best...

Also the PHP store list Green and Red LED. No one else that I can see offers these choices....I've read someone had a beta in green but could not see in daylight, wondering if this is still the same or if it has changed?
I would kinda like to keep it all uniform, but I do need to be able to read display.

Thanks

another benefit of using they Hydra is that you can load tunes from any custom tuner......all they have to do is e-mail them to you. I ran the tunes from Bill's library (PHP) for a few months before changing injectors. There was at least 25 or 30 I tried - plenty of options, just not enough time in the day to play.
