I also discovered that my fuel line system is not original. I believe there once was a short piece of steel line running from the pump to a fitting on the feed line from the tank. This is evident because the fitting is still on the flared pipe just below and behind the radiator. A PO replaced that with the rubber hose (which rotted and was leaking).
