Went to check the oil on wife 01expo and opened oil fill cap there was white(ish)foamy ,thick looking crap.truck has got 129,000 oil changed about 5-6000 ago.nothing but oil on dipstick.what would cause this and is there a way to flush this crap out of engine?thanks all.happy new year
It could be just condensation due to the cold weather. That will often happen if the truck is only driven short distances and rarely gets to fully warm up. I suggest that you change the oil and filter as well as flush the cooling system and keep a close watch on both systems
It likely is not serious but it could be and as alwaysfords said "clean the milkshake from the cap" and keep a close watch.
Startling, ain't it?
Saw this condition years ago on the cap of my wife's '86 VW Rabbit. She now drives our '01 Expedition to the same workplace. Can't be coincidence that it was with the same driver and daily destination.
It hasn't reappeared with frequency. I really don't recall that I've seen it happen to the Ford more than the one time. As is the case with most guys on this board, I keep a pretty close eye on fluids and change intervals. For my truck I am comfortable that it is not an indication of a bigger problem.
im on my third expedition now an '01. i have had a little "milkshake" on all 3. if i take mine for a 100 mi run, it dissappears. but i do a lot of short hops in town, and its cold here in mn, this morn it was below zero. the slightly brownish foam will reappear on the bottom of the oil filler cap and halfway down the filler tube with short runs. I'm told it is condensation from short hopps. good luck !!!
I keep seeing condensation here.I've never owned car or truck that had this problem.is it a design flaw somewhere?ill have the wife warm it up more before work and ill check PVC.thanks all
I had this problem on an '02 Dodge Ram (they're notorious for it) at about 40,000. I was worried since it usually means moisture in the oil but I did a lot of short driving trips. I changed fluids religiously and kept an eye on it but never had a problem. I just recently traded it in with almost 200,000 miles on it. So while it can be a sign of problems it may be nothing also. Just take a not of it and keep a closer eye on things.
