AFE intake

I purchased an AFE drop in air filter due to the advise i received. Something along the lines its not worth the money due to how much air the stock system flows. So i got the dry media filter and have noticed a drop in mpg. Like 3mpg altogether. Any thoughts?

The stock, Donaldson, air filter on the 6.0 is one of the items on these trucks that they hit a home run on. Until exceeding 500 hp your not going to find a higher flow air filter that filters as well as the stocker. No offense but you wasted yor money and should re-install the stock system.

Our winter fuel arrived beginning of November and indeed it's roughly 2 mpg less.

The issue is the OEM filter is well designed, supports plenty of power, good for 100,000+ miles and keeps the turbo happy.

Using an aftermarket filter is the main ingredient in the receipe for dusting the turbo.

The stock filter has a filter minder that tells you when it needs replacing. Many folks report many years of service from stock filter. So no need to replace it like the cheap filters on other vehicles.
The cost of turbo replacement due to poor filtration or oil on the ones that use oil is much more.

If you don't drive off-road or in very dusty conditions the stock filter is virtually a life-time filter. Mine has 65K on it and the filter minder is at zero. If you do drive off-road or in very dusty conditions, the aftermarket filters will allow dirty air to damage your engine. No upside, big downside. They say the stock filter can hold 3 pounds of dirt and still be OK.

There are some folks on fte with TONS of experience, hands on info, psd expetience, etc... if 69cj, bismic, cheezit, mchan, ncpartsman,
or a few others said..
"Change your oil with the truck facing north on Sunday".. i would do it..... and be thankful.
Again, the best filter for the 6.0 is the stock
filter!! :-;

I am skeptical on it being just the fuel since you are in Houston, but who knows ......... I am not far from there and haven't seen a drop like that.

Check for brakes dragging, check FICM voltage, check the EGR valve, and keep the tires at max pressure.
