1959 F-100 Panel Truck...

Greetings,

I have a '59 Panel and a question; Will it take more than one gallon of prepared automotive paint to do my truck inside & out (inside actually being only the door jambs, doors and door frame areas)?

Thanks,

Ken

What type of paint system? Base coat / Clear coat? If yes I would say you will need a gallon of each, maybe a little more. Depends on your tools and how well you can minimize waste.

There is a lot of surface area on a panel, the best I can remember is using about 1.5 gallons and mine was outside only, no inside doors or jambs, those I did in black.

Thanks guys... So, based on my experience in painting vehicles and waste management, Walston, you're saying I'll need at least three gallons...LOL!

I've never done a "real" paintjob, but I've rattle-canned it to make it all the same color as a temporary measure, (it was multi-colored and ugly when I got it, btw, that took 23 cans of $1-a-can spraypaint).

Thank you for your replies!

A 23 dollar paint job? That's great! Got any pics? I know I spent more than that on my F100 between rattle cans and brush on Rustoleum!

The first time I did it flat black, because it was about four different shades of black/grey when I bought it... then, I did it in "Ivory".

Funny thing is, when it was black, people avoided eye contact with me, now that it's ivory, I can't stop people from wanting to ask me what year it is, if it was a Helm's Bakery truck, etc, etc., etc

That looks pretty good. I've dealt with years of people asking me if it was a Helms truck. The best I recall they used Chevys, or did in my neighborhood.

The lighter color is nice. I like the full wheel covers two. Sort of reminds me of an old bakery truck!

Funny that folks would think yours was one! Some people just don't pay that much attention to things and some just are not capable of paying that much attention to things!
