Supercharger questions; 09 5.4L F350

I am thinking of supercharging my truck and am looking for advice on what kind of kit to get. Does Ford or Roush manufacture kits for the 5.4L that came after the triton? Or should I go for something aftermarket like a pro charger?

There are kits for the 5.4L, but for the F-150. They will work, but you may need to do a little engineering and fabricating. The tune may not work, since we run a different transmission, but that is easily remedied.

I looked at the Edelbrock E Force supercharger kit for the 2009 f150 and it only works on the 2wd models, there's a kit to relocate the oil filter for 4x4s though

For a tune, get in touch with 5 Star Tuning. They will fix up a custom tune for you.

Pull the motor and sell it, then get a Shelby Gt500 unit and drop it in> I belive the 11-12GT 500 motor is 550hp/510TQ stock. You could find a complete motor for what it would cost for a brand new supercharger kit + install/dyno tune.... Just thinking...

What HP/TQ numbers do you hope to accomplish? What is the budget for this upgrade?

I'm hoping for an extra 100hp and 70-80ish extra ft/lbs. money isn't an issue. I'm also somewhat looking into doing a cummins conversion too but if I can supercharge it for cheaper than a 12v cummins swap I'd rather do that

Back in 2009, I spent a lot of time and research looking for a supercharger for my 5.4L 3V engine in the 2005 Super Duty (see link below). It can be done but it does require custom tunes due to the Torqshift transmission.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...uper-duty.html

If you stay at 6 PSI, the OEM engine internals can take the additional stress of the supercharger. However, 6PSI provides minimal gains in HP/TQ at a significant cost. Depending on the kit you purchase, you may need to add new fuel injectors and new spark plugs. By the time you include installation and dyno time for the custom tunes, it total cost adds up quickly. My estimate is $8K or more.

If you go with 12-14 PSI (like I wanted), you have to upgrade the engine internals with forged components, install new pulley, install new MAF, and install a better fuel pump. Custom ported heads and high-flow exhaust really need to be done as well. Add the installation and dyno time for the custom tunes, and the price is up to $20K or more.

I searched and neither Whipple nor Roush make a kit for the 2009 F150 5.4L 3V engine. Whipple offers kits for the 2004-2008 F150 5.4L 3V engine. Roush use to offer a kit but it appears that they have dropped it from production.

IMO, you have a few options. They are:

1. Live with your current SD and get a SCT tuner with custom tunes from Mike at 5 Star Tuning. Cost: $450.00

2. Trade your SD for a 2005-2010 SD with the 6.8L 3V V10 engine and get a SCT tuner with custom tunes from Mike at 5 Star Tuning. Cost: Trade + $450.00

3. Trade your SD for a 2011-2013 SD with the 6.2L V8 engine and get a SCT tuner with custom tunes from Mike at 5 Star Tuning. Cost: Trade + $450.00

I am not a diesel engine guy... but the "reality" is that the diesel engine is the "best bang for the buck" in terms of price versus performance. This would be Option #4 for you.

There is another extremely interesting option for a 5.4L... See my previous post.

I looked at that option two years and it is very expensive. The engines are hard to find used. The best deal I found was on eBay for a engine with 2K miles for $10K. New engines are from $15,799 to $20K. These engines are not designed to fit to the Torqshift transmission so a custom bell housing is required. Also, the wiring harness and ECM are not compatible. There is a lot of customization required for this option.

I own several Mustangs so I'm always trolling the Mustang forums. I've seen them for under 10K, but I agree it's not cheap or easy. It would however, make your truck a one-of-a-kind Shelby/SVT powered custom that would be very, very interesting. I'm putting this one on my "someday project list", haha!!

There's not much with these trucks (or Mustangs) that's cheap...

If money is truly no issue I'd buy a Mustang and go from there. In fact I did just that, much more fun than screwing around trying to make a truck fast.

Trucks are about pulling, climbing, and sloshing through mud, snow, and sand!

Not trying to change the topic, but my '12 Mustang GT is truely incredible. With the 5.0 and just a CAI, exhaust and a tune it's rippin fast. I've owned several brand new GTs from 04-12, and the 12 5.0 is the only one I don't feel is less of a car because it's not a GT500....
