1987 F700 steering parts
The old girl needs a seal in the steering gear box (output shaft is leaking) and the steering shaft u-joints are shot. Of course, Ford says "parts are discontinued". Any one else find an aftermarket solution for the u-joints?
As for the seal, I would like to get a seal number and have the seal before I tear it apart. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Have you disassembled the column and seen replaceable u-joints? Probably not, because there aren't any.
The u-joints (do not actually resemble u-joints) are made as part of lower steering shaft & coupler assy., cannot be replaced by themselves.
Two different types of couplers, A/T or M/T makes a difference.
And, are you sure this is an F700? That would also make a difference as some people confuse F700's with C & LN700's.

Over the Years I've replaced many parts and sub assmbys that were deemed by the company that made it as "non-serviceable"
If you have to remove the u joints with a torch and take measurements
Then call a company like Borgensen to see what they have.
If your joints are truely Shot what do you have to loose?

Some parts are available by themselves for F700's, but not the u-joints...and they do not resemble u-joints, neither do the F100/350/Bronco's.
F100/350 & Bronco no longer available from FoMoCo, these can only be replaced by Borgeson shafts.
1967/75 F100/250 4WD lower steering shaft & couplers have a replaceable u-joint that looks just like driveshaft u-joint.

Hey guys, Thanks for the replies. It is an automatic Allison tranny. It is marked as an F700 on the truck itself and all the paperwork that I have. I am 99.9% sure that it is a F700. It is helpful to know that the u-joints are not replaceable. I have not disassembled yet and now am glad I did not try! I will check out the Borgenson site in the mean time.
