Lots of variables will make a difference on what will fit. Wheel offset and suspension height being two main concerns. For example, if you are running an explorer rear axle, you would need spacers or heavy wheel offset or you would be into the frame.

I can give you my starting point. Stock front and 9" rear of standard width. I am running 255/60/15s on the back on 15x8 rims with 4" of backspace. With this, I have plenty of clearance between both the frame and the fender (probably could have cleared 275's). On the front I have the same rims and running 235/60/15s and again have good clearance (main concern here is the steering linkage on the inside and the fender on the outside). Again, may have been able to run 255s up front, but got a great deal on the set and they looked good when mounted up, so that is where I am at for now.
