Engine dies when I honk the horn

Started out intermittently, but pretty much a constant now. If I honk the horn, the engine will die. 97 F250 7.3L. Only thing I can figure the two have in common would be inside the steering column.
Any ideas?

That's fine in the summer, but it is too cold to roll down the window. You know with frostbite and all...

Had a turbo arrow III (PA28RT201)
Had a cherokee 140

Soldem both. Just too expensive anymore. Hangar, fuel, maintenance.

Hi piperpilot,

I'm going to send this one down to the OBS forum, this forum is primarily for '99 and up trucks so you may not get the best information up here.

I chuckled when I read the subject line....I laughed out loud when I read this:

I'm sure you already asked Mr. Google but many responses are about VW Jettas having a similar issue. One said it could be a tuner or chip, not sure if you have one though.....

This is a long winded way to both 'subscribe' and say 'bump'. Good luck!!

yeah I'd start with the steering column. I know the wires for the overdrive switch always get eaten up pretty bad in there. Mine did and every time I'd press it it would blow my automatic transmission fuse; kinda need that.

Perhaps some wiring is bad and it overloads your alternator?

Does anything else die when you hit the horn? Interior dome light, radio, etc..?

I'd start by tracing your horn wires, could be possible your shorting out .

My horn just straight died on me one day when I was notifying somebody that I was behind them, you know..for safety reasons. I didn't read all of the posts about this, but it sounds like a bad connection/crossed wires somewhere. Good luck with that.

Try disconnecting the horn wire from the horn, then see if it dies when you press on the wheel. If it does, disconnect the horn relay & try it again... Hopefully you'll find a point where you can affect the problem.

Yep same thing happens to my 96 7.3 as stated above I’ve given up on fixing it. I just don’t honk the horn. If someone pisses me off I just give them a big blast of smoke out of the straight pipe and blow by them 😎 good luck to ya tho
