First road trip in the books....very happy with this truck!
So I just took delievry of my new 2012 6.2 4x4 this past Saturday as of yesterday I had a lil over 200 miles on it from bouncing around town.
Anyway Yesterday morning I brought my wife to the airport for her to fly to Ft. Lauderdale and catch a plane to Venezuela....she is going to visit her family.
well we got to the airport at 4am (Atlanta) only to find out all flights were canceled and nothing going out later. Well her flight for Venezuela leaves Thursday so I had to get her down there. We left the airport and headed south.
The drive down was great the truck drives very smooth and is very quite and I am very pleased with how well this big heavy 4x4 rides.
Mpg's were not to bad I was getting 15 or so running 65-68 and it dropped to 14 when I bumped it up to 75.
We made it to Boca in 10 hours got to her sisters at 5pm....I took a shower and ate and left right back because I had to work today......
My mpg's were better coming back, I dont know if its cause there were some miles put on it or what but running 75-80 I was getting 15.5 and in some spots that got nice and flat I would see 16.5-17 but the average was 15 running almost 80.
The drive was great I was comfortable all the way down and back 20 hours of drive time and my *** was not soar at all . Staying awake sucked pretty bad but I really enjoyed driving this truck
The truck now has 1600 miles on it and driving in the city all day today for work it is averaging 14 which is 2mpg bett than when I first picked it up.
I guess maybe it is just breaking in....oh and also the power seems to be much better...this 6.2 is very stout I am so glad I went with this engine instead of the diesel
Thats it just thought I would share

Thanks for the trip report Amelio, glad the truck is working out great for ya. I can't remember, did you say before you had the 3.73's or 4.30's? My truck really woke up after a couple thousand miles I think it was. Or at least I thought it woke up, apparently that didn't happen until I threw a tune on it! These things really get up and move though, I've been totally satisfied with mine since day one (2 years old now).
I think next spring/summer, my oldest boy and I are going to drive out to AZ with my flatbed trailer and bring back an old Bronco ('78 preferably) or Jeep for him to drive when he gets his license in a year. It'll be fun doing another cross country trip, except this time I'll be in a truck with gobs of power instead of my gear deprived 2000 that I drove out here in (37" tires with 3.73's pulling ~7klbs with another 2k in the bed makes for extremely slow hill climbs). This is the plan at least...

This truck is really great I am very impressed, I also have the two capt. seats and as I mentioned I was comfortable the whole trip. I traded in my 2006 Sierra Denali...that truck had extremely nice seats. GM screwed up the following year I think....my uncle has an '08 Avalanche and it is a very nice truck but the seats are hard especially the back seats they are horrible.
The first thing I did before I test drove this truck was jump in the back and I was really blown away with how comfortable the rear seats were. I have always been a die hard Chevy\GM guy and I loved my Denali there was nothing wrong with it I just wanted a new truck. I looked at a lot of new chevy's but the interior does nothing for me. I really like the Dodge interior because it looks like the Ford but the exterior on the Dodge is ok.
The Ford all around is the best truck IMO the styling and comfort is top notch!
PacMan90 you made a good choice I went back and forth over a chevy or Ford then once I made that choice I went back and forth over a gasser or Diesel. I love a diesel and if I towed heavy every day or even a few times a month I would have went with one. I am very glad I went with the 6.2 its just awesome!
2000silverbullet...yeah its got 3.73's and it is really spunky and as I mentioned it has improved over the past 1k miles I can only imagine how it would feel after a tune. However it does not need it at all this things runs out great.
Anybody weigh their truck?
I am just curious how much this thing is 4x4 crew cab loaded with all the nice goodies I imagine its gotta be at or just over 6k

Holy crap....so the truck on its own is probably closer to 7k with fuel in it....thats heavier than I thought it would be.

My truck with me (~205lbs) and a buddy (~185lbs) and a half a tank of gas came in just over 8k lbs.
This was taken at the last Ohio meet at the gravel yard when we were weighing the trailer (link below w/ vids):

4.30's may be a better choice I hear. My 3.73's make the tranny hunt for gears sometimes between 5 and 6. That's why I usually use the select-shift and keep it in 5th gear around town and use 6th on the highway ONLY.
This works out real well for me. It allows me to get better mpg on the highway without sacrificing in town drive-ability. You don't need 6 gears for around town.
