Dear Abby,

I've never written to you before, but I really need your advice. I've suspected for some time now that my wife has been cheating on me. The usual signs... phone rings but if I answer, the caller hangs up. My wife has been going out with the girls a lot recently although when I ask their names she always says, "Just some friends from work, you don't know them." I always stay awake to look out for her taxi coming home, but she always walks down the drive. Although I can hear a car driving off, as if she has gotten out of the car round the corner. Why? Maybe she wasn't in a taxi? I once picked her cell phone up just to see what time it was and she went berserk and screamed that I should never touch her phone again and why was I checking up on her. Anyway, I have never approached the subject with my wife. I think deep down I just didn't want to know the truth, but last night she went out again and I decided to spy on her. I parked my F-100 next to the garage and then hid behind it so I could get a good view of the whole street when she came home. It was at that moment, crouching behind my F-100, that I noticed that the valve covers on my engine seemed to be leaking a little oil. Is this something I can fix myself or should I take it to a shop?

Dear James, I share your concerns over the situation. If you are comfortable confronting the valve cover gasket replacement, i'd say go for it. If not, I would certainly consult a professional.

The first part of your post is exactly how it goes down
If you put a Flathead in your Truck you wouldn't have to worry about valve covers leaking

You might have to hire a private investigator to figure out the valve cover problem. Sometimes the screws are just loose and have to be replaced...

How long has this leak been going on? I think you might have a bigger problem here. When was the last time you took your truck out for a nice quiet drive in the country. When did you last slide under her and lube the chassis? Maybe she is lonely and letting her valve covers leak a little is just her way of begging for attention.

You need to take her out on a nice long cruise, no radio, be sure to include your truck dog and roll down the windows and listen to her engine purr. On your way back home, the two of you should stop at an auto parts store and get some nice new valve cover gaskets and spend some quality time in the garage.

Trust me, your relationship will be much better with your little beauty after that.

Good story, I bet it's a whole lot cheaper to fix the truck than the other problem.

Kind of reminds me of an incident about ten years ago, and it's true.

My wife and were driving down a major road on the outskirts of town and I saw a '48-50 Ford fire truck. A really nice truck and as we drove past I kept an eye on it, turning my head. A second later my wife punches me in the arm and acts all PO'd at me. I asked her, "What was that for?!". She answers back, "You couldn't be more obvious, I saw you ogling those girls." I asked, "What girls". "The girls in the bikinis crawling all over that old fire truck!" I looked into my rear view mirror and there were 3-4 scantly florescent bikini clad girls promoting a Harley dealer with a bike wash. I must have been getting old because I honestly didn't notice the girls. I told my wife that her beauty blocks out all other women, she didn't buy it.
