Heater hose connection into the block.

Hello. I have a 77 ford f150 with a 400 in it. ive been told the 400 is out of a lincoln. just because none of the parts match up from the parts store as far as plugs and wires. the fitting that goes into the block from the heater hose has broken off. I went over all the clamps to make sure it was on tight and it broke into peices. I can not get the peice out of the block. I've read posts on the forum and tried to come up with a solution. Not sure if it's brass, copper, what the old peice was. I do not have a torch. Thanks for the help.

Steel if it's like mine ....

It is just pressed in. Can you reach it well enough to maybe start a small sharp pointed narrow punch or something between the block and the remains of the tube.
Maybe pry a section out towards the center .... and it might help to use a hack saw blade (wrap half in a tape to form a handle) and saw a little on the inside to weaken it .... but not enough to cut into the block itself ... lengthwise. When the saw cuts through the wall of the remains it likely will loosen.

It does seem like it's steel. after tearing at it with a chisel it seems i have gotten most of it. Either it have gotten most of it or havent even begun to budge it loose. I have a 5/8" copper fitting i was going to rig in there til i got the right part. The copper peice still seems too big. I just need a quick fix to get to work tomorrow am. then i can stop at any parts store and get the right peice.

It's steel.
There are FOUR different types of heater water elbows that thread into the block, all look similar. Car/truck makes no difference: 1973/74 351C, 1973/79 400, 1975/79 351M

Can you describe what it looks like or better yet, post a pic of it?

That was the rest of it. A peice broke off in the hose. That's what the one smaller picture was of. The other pic of the whole is what's left of the fitting.

Looks like Devin is talking about this fitting in the block ....



They press in as far as I know .... though Brownie had already put mine in after hot tanking and cleaning the block and doing his other work and the freeze plugs.

yes tbear that is what i need! this is my daily driver. once i get it, how do i press it in. i get free towing with my insurance. should i just have it towed to the machine shop and have them fix me up a new hole? should be too much money right?

When I rebuilt my 400 I removed the old corroded fitting and replaced it with a 1/2mnpt x 5/8 hose barb brass fitting. Once you remove the old fitting the hole in the block is the right size for a 1/2 npt tapp. Just run the tapp in, make some threads and screw your new fitting in. Good Luck.

I like the machine-shop route, those guys do this stuff all the time and are good at it.

When I got my long block from Ford it didn't have anything there. my local Ford dealer parts dept couldn't locate one. just picked one up from Napa and it presses right in.
