Whos got a dump box??
First off I want to wish everyone a safe and Merry Christmas. Just curious as to who out there has a Dump box on their old ford. Trying to find Ideas for mine, since I am going to make a new one for my 53 ford. I already have the hoist from my old one so it should be pretty straight forward. I was planning on making a metal frame and then fabricating it so I can slide Wood in for the floor. I know things dont dump very well with a wood floor but Im not doing that much hauling with it. I also want to make stake pockets and then for the sides use old barn wood to give it a rustic look. Also what did the factory hitches look like in 53 or were there factory Hitches?? The one I have got cut off because it was hacked together. Feel free to post pics.
Merry Christmas

My truck has an omaha standard bed, I've posted some pictures of it in my album to get some ideas from. The original bed had T&G 2x2 flooring I refloored it with treated T&G 2x6's.
The cross pieces are fairly light 6" c formed channel with full 1" boards in between. I used 2x6's on some where I replaced both metal pieces. The flooring is bolted to angle front and back and screwed to the wood everywhere else.

I love your F350 Moe. The only thing I would do different is an express bed with a dump. If I could fine one for my 66 F350 I would work it over. I wish ya wasn't so damn far away. I would love to bring the 62 Uni by and check your rides out.
I have thought about going down to Western Colorado and bringing her home to Alaska. I have even found you on the map and plotted a course to take me by your place. But alas the kids will have my money spent long before I get off my ****.

I've got a flatbed dump but it is on my 1970 F350. It is PTO driven, 12 feet long ( I didn't want such a long bed and such a long wheel base but it was a bargain I could not turn down), original FORD bed (not script lettering but block letters) with modified side boards instead of racks, as you can see in the pic below.

IMO, 1200 lbs is not much when it comes to lifting a working loaded bed. Might work for a F1 short box if all you want to do is raise the empty bed. Perhaps with enough mechanical advantage incorporated into to the lift mechanism it could be made to work. Why not look around for a truck with a hydraulic lift set up, there are quite a few of them out there. I have an extra. The PTO driven pumps can be adapted to run from a 12 Volt motor.

If i can find a good pic of my poor 54 f600 ill post it. its got a 10 foot dump truck bed on it and weighs 10,000 empty. Dad had the beast out and was dipping cat tails out of the pond (heavy wet muck) he was all worried about over loading it. I told him he couldnt hurt it if he tried and that it was a REAL truck. He tried but failed. He had it completely full, both rear springs (including over kills) were bent backwards and the axle was on the bumpers and the same with the front. I have no idea how heavy it was but when he went to dump it he had the bed all the way up and it all slammed down in one huge glob and hung up in the tail gate making it way to heavy on the rear and it picked the front of that truck up about 4 feet in the air. exciting day, let me tell you. Ill post that pick when i find it... (sorry for the rambling)
