I am putting my rebuilt stock steering box back together. I have the rubber sector seal oil ring that goes on the side of the box where the sector shaft comes out of the box and goes through the frame. One side of this rubber ring has a steel ring on it, the other side is all rubber. Trying to determine which way this is supposed to be oriented, steel to the frame side or to the steering box side? I have a photo of this ring posted in my albums.

I can't tell from the picture but generally the rubber lip goes in toward the box where the oil is. You are trying to keep the oil in the gearbox so you want pressure on the lip facing the oil.

 

raytasch is correct the lip points in to the box .

 

thanks guys, a machine shop just replaced the bushings for me and I didn't see how it was oriented when it was on the box originally
