Exclamation ALTERNATOR IN QUESTION

i have a 1992 150 with a 4.9 and a stock 2g alternator, it is an xlt so it has all eletrical options that were available, here is my question if i put in a 500 watt rms sound system in the truck will the stock alt handle this untill i can get the money for an upgrade, if it matters the amp is an re audio dts 1000.1 that has a max watt output of 1600 watts at one ohm load. thanks in advance

Seeing as it isn't CEA-2006 compliant, you won't be getting that much power out of it without MASSIVE distortion. I say probably 250-300 Watts RMS. Even then though the alternator will struggle. I have a Kenwood KAC-1502S in my truck which is compliant running at a guaranteed 150 watts RMS and I did have issues with voltage drops and dimming headlights with only that one amp. I threw in the 3G alternator from a Taurus and I have no suck problems now at all. I would Upgrade your alternator first, then look into a CEA compliant amp that will guarantee the RMS rating you see.

Heres a few that are compliant:
Kenwood X500-1 Monoblock eXcelon Series Digital Power Amplifier
Rockford Fosgate R250-1D (R250-1D) Class D Marine PRIME Amplifier
Pioneer GM-D7500M (gmd7500m) 800W Max GM Digital Series Class D
Kenwood KAC-8105D (kac8105d) 1000W Class D Monoblock Car Amplifier

Look again. the Re Audio DTS-1000.1 is NOT CEA-2006 compliant.

RE Audio DTS-1000.1 (DTS1000.1) 1000W Monoblock Class D Amplifier

Click on that link, click on Features and Specs and you will see that they say CEA-2006 compliant : NO...

For the alternator, read these:

As per request: The almost famous 3G Alternator Interchange - The Web Wheeler

What you need is ~3 feet of 2 gauge cable, a 175 amp MEGA Fuse and it holder, an alternator from some 90, any 91-92, and any 93-95 3.8 Taurus, and its alternator plug. It is a 8.25" ear spacing alternator. Will look like this:

The you simply make this connector out of the Taurus plug:

Bolt in alternator like this:

Then route the green wire from the plug to this green wire on the starter:

Then you plug in the alternator and run the big 2 gauge cable like this:
From back of alternator:

To Fuse holder and fuse:

To the post on the starter relay:

Thats it.
Here are the part #'s for the fuse and holder at Napa:
175A fuse: BK 7821139
Mega fuse holder: BK 7821143

As for the amp, I would HIGHLY recommend getting one of the other ones I listed. They are compliant, about the same price and will have MUCH less chance of distorting the signal to your sub.
