Today on the way to work the tire pressure idiot light began to blink and a message came on and said "Tire Pressure Monitor Failure" or words to that effect. About a minute later they both went off and didn't come back on. Whats up with that? Also, how do I know which monitor, if any, is going out?
This on a 09 Screw with 49K on it.

 

Did you check your tire pressures?

 

No, I havn't had a chance to put a guage to them yet, but they look normal. I'll check that when I get home.

 

i didn't know that 2009's had the tpms. is it just on certain models? I have a 2010 STX that doesn't have it. I'm kind of glad that it doesn't have it. The wife's car had a sensor go bad so there was always a light on the gauge cluster blinking.

 

Does your spare tire look normal too?
My little brothers 08 STX had the light come on and his spare tire was low on air.

 

The other morning it cooled off overnight and my son's and my trucks had TPMS lights go on. The day before it was warm enough to not trigger the light, but the sudden cool-down brought the pressure down enough. I checked my pressures, all were low, but one of them was down to 25 psi. My guess is that your tire(s) were just at the low pressure limit that triggers the light...then driving it warmed them up enough to expand the air and the light went off.

 

Well you either have a low tire pressure or one of the sensors needs replacement. The batteries on them usually last about 3-4 years before needing replacement.

 

You can have the dealership set the monitor level to a different PSI. I did as I wanted my monitor to tell me at 50 PSI. I inflate mine to 55 lbs, I prefer a harder ride. Chris

 

I checked the pressures last night and all were fine, including the spare. The weather here has been rather warm, 75 degrees in the afternoons, though a cold front is coming through today. The wierd part was that the sensor blinked, and it gave a sensor problem warning message. I had been driving about 20 minutes at 40-50mph. Also, how do I tell which sensor may be going out? On my friend's Chevy it tells you which tire is low. This is just a non specific warning. I don't want to change all five of them if only one is bad.

 

The dealer can tell you which one it is.

 

I've had the same problem... I figured it was due to radio interference, as each time it has gone off, I was going through a city. I was not aware that the dealer could change the pressure level for it to signal at... I think I'll have to have my dealer adjust mine, as I have Toyos on my truck and I like a little harder ride too.

 

It's not tire pressure. If it was it would say low tire

I have the same thing happen on my 2010 every 5-6 weeks. It will show the tire monitor fault for a few minutes then go out. This started happening after the tire shop switched my sensors over to my new rims.

 

I'm certain they can, for $50 an hour. I don't like the Ford service department near my house, especially since they literally left me out in the cold once before.

 

TPMS became mandatory in the 07 models, your 2010 STX does have it unless you bought the truck used and someone changed out the rims

 

$50 an hour would be cheap here!!
