High pressure oil pump (HPOP) troubles

Ive got a 95 f-350 7.3 diesel, i believe the HPOP is out on it. the truck will turn over all day long and the fuel filter is full of full but it refuses to fire. does anyone have any other ideas as to what could be the problem? and if not, how can i remove the old HPOP??

Try the diesel engine forum... go back to the main forum listing on this site and you'll see it.

1994.5 - 1997 7.3L Power Stroke Diesel - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums Here is a link to the page for your engine.
However my guess would be a bad camshaft position sensor. Good luck.

Thanks Lazy K, but when you prime the reservior for the hpop it always drains back down, could that mean the hpop is bad? or does that happen over time anyway?

I think in 96 they changed the HPOP and removed some sort of relief valve that fails and lets the oil drain. Causes a long crank before the reservoir fills back up.

Jim, it might help to provide some additional info about your situation. Did you just change something? Is this your daily driver and this is the first time you've had a problem?

I can't help you much (other than I am in the north tx area [Denton] myself) and hope that someone else may be able to help you.
