1997 Ranger/Mazda 2.3L p0340 misfire problem

I cannot figure out what the problem is on my '97 2.3L. I threw a p0340 code last week and the truck started misfiring while idling and driving (especially 2500 rpm and beyond). I have 93,000 miles on the truck and decided it was time to replace the timing belt while I replaced the camshaft positioning sensor. A local shop checked the signal from the CPS and it was good as well as the wiring. The alternator is not throwing any A/C current either (the CPS is magnetic). Does anyone know more about this problem? I have read about every thread about this.

Additionally replaced:
Spark Plugs
Battery

Does anyone know if the PCM can give the wrong code? I am about to replace my PCM with a remanufacured one but from what I have read, this usually is not the problem.

Is it possible my ICM and crankshaft position sensor are not communicating to fire the spark plugs?
