98 Ranger 4x4
I got a 98 ranger about 3 months ago. So far, I love it. The only problem at this point is the 4x4 is not working. Now that the semester is over and winter is here, its time to finally fix that problem. The Hi and Lo lights blink on and off constantly when driving. We've checked the 4x4 switch. The resistors are withing spec. I took the truck to AAMCO today and had the GEM module codes read. The codes found
P1878
P1832
C1752
P1812
P1838
P1891
P1867
B1352
The guy who read them told me that he reset them and the one that returned immediately. He said that one means that one of the lines on the motor sensor was not returning properly. Since the motor is very rusty, and I have read many places that those sensors are prone to failure, I went ahead and replaced the motor. Still no 4x4 (we watched the front axle). The lights only blink now when the switch is shifted into one of the 4x4 positions instead of all positions. However, neither of the lights stays constant when the switch is turned (they both stay off), nor does the LED on the switch come on at all. I'm not sure where to look next. Its a new motor, so I am going to guess its working (I have no way to test otherwise), and the GEM is good since it was able to spit back codes. What else could be causing this problem?
Last thing is, looking at the wiring diagrams, I see there is a set of relays that switch the motor. I don't hear a relay clicking, but then again, it could be outside in the motor compartment. Where are these so I can check them?
Thanks in advance.

Check all 4WD-related fuses and relays. Could also could be a problem with the GEM.
