I paid $3.749 for diesel today.
Diesel Fuel took the big jump when the refineries had to retool for the Ultra Low Sulfer Diesel back in 2006. My neighbor said it cost his company over $300 million to change over from Low Sulfer to Ultra Low for just one refinery.
So prices went up to pay for that change over and it has never come down.
My 2000 SuperDuty with its 7.3L engine in the late summer of 1999, was using diesel at $0.80 a gallon and that was 25-30 cents a gallon cheaper than regular

Diesel is a product that can be (and is) exported so international demand is helping drive up diesel prices.
For some reason, gas is not as affected; I think I read that there is a shortage of diesel refining capacity globally which helps keep the price higher.
You know, if the price is this high with soft demand (the world economy), I'd hate to see it when (if?) things get humming again.
