Major Sound upgrade - Opinions

Hi Guys,

I have a 2006 F250 CC with stock 6-changer CD/radio and speakers. I am looking to do a major upgrade and was looking for advice and opinions. I recently decided to increase my budget to about $1500. I like Pioneer so I was going to stick with them for most of the equipment. I posted this in the A/V forum but no one wanted to speak up - Is this overkill or sweet?

Here is my list so far:

Amazon.com: Pioneer AVH-P3400BH 2-DIN Multimedia DVD Receiver with 5.8" Widescreen Touch Panel Display, Built-In Bluetooth®, and HD Radio: Car Electronics
Amazon.com: Boston Acoustics Pro60 SE 6-1/2" component speaker system: Car Electronics
In the back seat I am going to just upgrade the stock speakers a bit:

Amazon.com: Pioneer TSD6802R 6 X 8 2-Way 260 Watt Speakers: Car Electronics
I am going to power this set up with:

Amazon.com: Pioneer GM-D8604 4-Channel Amplifier: Car Electronics
I am planning a single 12" sub in a sealed box from either Boxworx or Supercrew sound:

Amazon.com: Pioneer TS-SW3001S4 12-Inch Shallow Step Up S4 Subwoofer: Car Electronics
Amazon.com: Pioneer GM-D8601: Car Electronics
I am planning to run 4-0 wire to the amps and 14 guage for the speakers.
I'll use this little gizmo to hook up the steering wheel controls:

Amazon.com: Metra Axxess ASWC Universal Steering Wheel Control Interface (Black): Car Electronics
There is a good chance I'll end up paying to have it all installed since I am not sure I will be able to find the time.

I am definitely new to the car stereo world. The equipment I picked out seemed good enough. I would appreciate any thoughts or comments.

I listened to a friend's system yesterday - he has the pioneer sub in a ported box - too much rumble for me. He had the pioneer headunit and it was really nice. I doubt I will ever use the DVD bit, but a back up camera would be nice. Anyway, let me know what you all think - Thanks, Dan

The first Upgrade here is Going to be the Alternator

I run a System and have a Couple amps (check Sig below) Nothing to Crazy

But the Problem I had was I could Eat OEM Alternators FAST
this Stereo will Kill FICM Batterys Alternators

IDK what stereo you get But I really Like the USB Drives they Have Now only 1 vehicle I have has one really like it your probably has it sounds High tech with DVD Players ect.....

It has the USB - my friend's system has that and I agree it is really cool and super convenient. A DC power amp has been on the to do list for some time. Ever since I learned how to change the serp belt, I have been thinking about it

Well with any stereo with Amps its Now a MUST!!!!!! the OEM Alternator can barly keep up and is really underpowered at times with stock setup

I see you looked at the 300amp SPX

These other DC Power alts are Better Built or Better parts from what I Gather
185amp
190amp (This what I run but I only run 2 amps at 1600 watts together)
250amp
270amp

Its the alt windings in the above IIRC

My 190amp does just fine

as far as the other stereo components its a Huge world the amps are not all rated the same on there Packaging been a few since I looked at them But the Higher the RMS Wattage will be the more powerful amps

The amp output needs to match the speakers maybe its the Ohms and space in Box IIRC

Its a Big world out there for stereos there are car stereo forums out there that might be good help

Mine is Far From the Best but works for me its a Mix of Pioneer MTX Sony I cant remember the Tweeters Brand but works for this Kid Far from Competiton though

Rockford Fosgate makes some the best Mono amp out there but they are spendy

Guess it depends on your Plans what you want

I'm not looking to go too crazy, I just want some nice sound. Honestly you have more power than I need. The amps I picked are 100W RMS I think and that should be more enough. My friend's set up was way too much for me.

I remember now about the amps - the CNC billet amp just looks cool, but I remember the other being better.

Thanks for reminding me about the alternator - my friend did not do his but he has dual alts. Oh so many projects....

Did you do the install yourself?

YES I did

these Fords are Easy Just get the Right Plug that goes factory to the New Deck Thats the only Factory wires I used but get the right plug you wont have to splice wires

You will only splice the remote Turn on for the Amps

Ran all new speaker wires to everything went big on this wires too

changed the OEM 4x6 speakers to Pioneer all 4

It had 4 tweeters in front door (2) and 2 more in the cab header panel

2 12 inch MTX subs rear truck

The rear Bench seat was Unbolted and Moved Forward to get the 12 inch subs back there

Ran some Big poweer wires to the amps off Driverside Batterys cant remember the size but its Like 3/4 inch thick power wires

But I will Strongly advise to Change the Alternator to a Preformance Alternator
I was eating Alternators in less than 5K miles

Sounds doable, but a lot of work. I guess I would be doing similar - few less speakers. How long did it all take. Unfortunately I am short on time and long on other projects. Oil cooler is coming up...

Where did you put your amps? Under rear seat or behind it?

I bought it used in 05 and owner B4 had a system in it so seat was done and tweeters in

1 FULL day to do that was

New Deck install with trim kit
Wire and install amps
run ALL New speaker wire
Changed all 4x6 speakers

Already had the subs in the Boxes done

Amps under rear seat

You will Love that USB drive with the amount of storage they have now Blows a 6 disc out the water plus no CD to get scratched. Any deck i get from now on will have it

Make shure the Box volume matches the Sub speakers what they require

Theres alot to a Sweet sounding system one day Im going to redo mine cause the subs are old and there Boxes are not to spec

Thanks for all the advice - I'll see how it goes - I'll try to do as much myself as I can (have time for) - I will likely get impatient at some point. I tried to rep you but I have to spread it around some more.
