confirmation on part numbers for thermostat & thermostat gasket

hi guys,

part of getting my project together is to cover all bases. apparently, this slipped. so to cover my tracks, i'm including this as well. i havent started taking everything apart yet. i'm still getting everything together.

guys, i need confirmation on the part number for the thermostat. is it rt-1169? also, the thermostat has an o-ring gasket. wat is the part number?

maybe any of y'all might know where to purchase them?

finally, i was wondering if any fella has a pic of the exact location where the thermostat might be. i have a rough idea where it may be. is it on top of the radiator by the driver side and inside that big radiator hose? please confirm.

thanks in advance fellas!

RT1169 (also 3C3Z-8575-AA) is correct. The kit includes the thermostat and housing w/ gasket.

It actually doesn't have a gasket, just an O-ring. I bought one three days ago, changed it two days ago. It's easy to see, it's bolted onto the front of the engine and the rad hose that runs to the top of the radiator fits over it. It is a module that has the actual thermostat incorporated into the neck and housing that the rad hose fits over, one piece. You can change it easily if you take out the air cleaner housing, two 10mm bolts hold it in. You have to drain about half the coolant. I undid the rad hose at the radiator, took out the two bolts and then pulled the hose with the thermostat still attached out, put the new thermostat on the end of the hose in the same orientation and wiggled it back in, adjusted a tad, tightened the hose clamp and bolted it back in. Draining and refilling the coolant took about 8 times as long as actually changing the thing.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I can see clearly now. I remember reading bout the exact orientation of the thermostat also, them 10 mm bolts have to be torque to about 15 ft lbs? If I'm not mistaken, when it comes to Ford, 8 to 10 mm bolts are usually torqued to about 10 to 15 ft lbs.

On my Ex, the hardest part was getting the EBP
Off with the fuel return line in the way of the stud.
Loosen the bolts that held these metal lines enough th wiggle them aside. Good luck.

Recently purchased the above item from Tousley along with the fuel pressure Blue Spring Kit and the HCFM drain plug. 11.00 total freight on order, so thermostat kit was in mid 20.00's with a percentage of the freight added to tousley cost. Might be another source for you if you have a few things to buy.

MC5C - IIRC Ford calls the rubber aorund the thermostat element itself "the gasket".

Nah, buying things one at a time. Yes bismic, ur right bout tat. Even though its an o-ring, I believe Ford will call it a gasket when it suits the application's purpose.

Well, I know what a gasket is and I know what an O-ring is. I don't care what Ford calls it, it's an O-ring... A gasket is a piece of paper. It ain't a piece of paper.

There is no need to remove or move anything to change the t-stat on the 05+ engine.

Just use a longer extension to reach the bolts and remove the t-stat and hose as an assembly.

My problem was previous installer put the worm drive of the hose clamp on the thermostat end right over one of the 10mm bolts, so I had to take the air cleaner out to get a screw driver in to undo the hose clamp and move it. Made the whole deal easy, you can take the bolts in and out with your hands that way, less chance of dropping them into never-never land. But I agree that without that little oopsie on the hose clamp you shouldn't need to move the air cleaner.
