Is it necessary to remove the torque converter bolts when pulling an engine

Hi,
I'm in the middle of pulling the engine from my truck. I was looking through this site and came across a reference on the subject. It said that the 4 bolts holding the torque converter also need to be removed before the engine can be separated

I have removed 5 of the 6 bolts of the bell housing and am working on the 6th one. I did not remove the torque converter bolts. Is removing the torque converter bolts necessary? I'm not doubting what the other poster said, I just don't know how the tranny is held together with the engine.

My first time doing this..........
Thanks

Hi,
After asking the question, I went out and tried to remove the bolts. The converter keeps spinning as I try and turn the nuts. I need to pull the trany anyway, so I'll remove the transfer case and pull the engine and trany together. I removed the core support to make it easier.
My next question is:
Do I have to drain the trany first before pulling it and where do I disconnect the transfer case. Should the transfer case be disconnected at the adopter close to the tranny, or the transfer case.

Thanks.

Hold engine balancer bolt or wedge something on flywheel.

I tried to wedge the fly wheel, but it did not work. It's getting cold and dark, so I'm stoping for the day. Any thoughs on the T case aspect.
Thanks again.

Unbolt the transfer case from the transmission at the transfer case- there should be 6 nuts on studs around the joint. Once you have the shifter and wiring unhooked and the drivelines removed the T case will slip right off the transmission. As for draining the trans, you dont have to but it is going to make a mees as you pull it because the fluid will run out the back of the trans as you pull it out.

Trany fluid running out is what I was worried about.

Thank you.
