Power liftgate won't open by remote or dash button.

Hello all,
I have an 2008 Expedition EL with the power liftgate option. The lftgate only opens manually by pressing the button on the handle and lifting it open. I have read the other post where it was found that there was a low battery situation, at this time I am feeling like that is not the case. I metered the battery before start up and it read 12.54 volts, after start up it read 14.65 volts. So the battery rested all night long and retained it's charge, and when started the alternator was supplying sufficient charge. So now I am stumped. OK peanut gallery, I am open to suggestions.

Have you checked fuse #14 ???

Maybe the powerlift motor is toast.

Yes I am in "Park" when this occurs fstaslp and RI-Matt I didn't check fuse #14 i checked fuse #27. I will go check fuse #14 now, also how would I test to see if the powerlift motor is burnt out? I don't want to end up with a battery situation like on the other post about this.

OK RI-Matt. went out and checked fuse #14 on the passenger side. The fuse was not blown. Here is the funny part after I replaced fuse #14, just for giggles I tried the remote. The liftgate opened. I cycled it about 5 times to make sure i wasn't imagining anything and every time after it worked. Does that sound a little hokey to you?

So now it works ?? That's good right ??
Actually what you did by removing power to the Power liftgate module and then reappling power was you reset the module. Sometimes electronics can be quirky.

When you say you checked fuse#27 on passenger kick panel or in the engine bay ?

liftgate

I have the exact same problem. Only I removed the motor and bench tested it. The motor turned fine but the dealer said that it may not work under load.
I only did this after I checked the fuses.
Im thinking that Ill put the motor back in and replace the fuse and see if my luck is as good as yours. If not then Ill replace the motor.

grr

ok so I re-installed the motor and it worked...but when it pulls the tailgate down, as soon as it is about to latch it opens back up again.

This is the first symptom it exhibited before it quit altogether.

Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Have you tried resetting it ?

1. Disconnect the battery for 20 seconds, then reconnect it.

2. Manually close and latch the liftgate.

3. Power open the Liftgate with the button on the dash or remote.

Try that and see what happens.
