Like everyone else has already said.
Real world driving (Not towing) the 5.0L and Ecoboost perform about the same. Now if we are talking Towing the Ecoboost has the advantage, but that's not to say the 5.0L can't move some weight either.
Gas mileage between the two is a wash. They are both so close they can't really be compared.
Best thing you can do I think is to just test drive an Ecoboost truck (if you haven't already) and go from there.
But I honestly don't think it would be worth it for the reasons already stated.

Hopefully the issues that some were having with their Ecoboost 11's and 12's are all worked in the 2013's.
The ecoboost is a $1095 option over the optional 5.0L, depending on trim level and drive train options.
I've heard a bunch of the 5.0L guys share their highway MPG's with us and they seem very consistent and extremely respectable. But little has been shared with respect to mixed driving and city driving.

I have an Ecoboost and love it but I don't see an advantage to trading in a 2 year old truck with a 5.0 for one. Unless you tow some heavy loads there isn't an advantage in the cost increase compared to the small increase "if any" in gas mileage. Besides from what I understand 2014 there is suppose to be a body style change. If you are the type that trades every couple of years I would wait 6 months to see if I liked the new body style better. JMHO.

When I bought my 2012 Ecoboost I tried both trucks, the Ecoboost just felt like it had a lot more down low grunt. I haven't been disappointed in anyway. I've had my truck for about a year now, it has 7K..if I were to buy another new truck today I would buy the Ecoboost in a second with no doubts.

Thanks for the replies. I usually trade every 2-3 years and just wondering what everyone thinks about the ecoboost. I have about that weights about 6000lbs and a 30ft enclosed snowmobile trailer that doesn't weight as much as the boat but it is 8.5ft wide so you pull a lot of wind. The 5.0 does excellent in pulling both. I am just wondering how the Eco guys like their trucks because I might try something different this time.

I haven't heard anything about a new model in 2014, and considering they just did a mid-model refresh on the 2013s (added MyFordTouch, HIDs, changed the styling a bit), I would think they'd wait at least a couple of years before bringing out a new model.
