Ficm and cold weather
I have a 06 with 210k miles and it runs great. I always monitor my ficm and deltas with a scan gauge. I have noticed since it has gotten colder that when I first start when it's cold the ficm will bump 43.5 and 44 very briefly before leveling out at 48. No starting issues I've just noticed it. Anything I should do to it or wait for it to get worse.

My FICM issue is on a cold start and go, it will not accelerate and the GP lite comes on. Try it again and the same thing. Might do it once or 10 times. Finally after the engine builds a little heat, it goes. It started doing this after I got the FICM back from Ed last March for upgrading. Replaced the CKP, CMP and GP controller. So now I just remote start it and after it runs for 10 to 15 minutes, I have no more problem then and for the rest of the day.

My '06 was getting a bit slow to start. A brandy-new scangage 2 showed that battery voltage was going down to 10 volts during cold-weather cranking.
Other folk here recommended a battery replacement using Motocraft batteries. I found that the Ford dealer had really decent prices on a pair of 850 CCW Motocraft batteries (right around $110.00 each installed).
The new batteries fixed the slow start problem. My F350 is now boringly (is that a word?) reliable. It starts fine, runs well and happily tows heavy stuff.

According to Ed's own website, anything under 45 is a problem, so I would have to say yes, there is something wrong.
IMO, anything under 47 is low.
I agree that it is interesting that he did not find anything wrong. I would be carefully inspecting all of the connections in the if it were mine (from the alternator, to the batteries, and to the FICM - incuding the grounds).

Don't want to jack the tread. I think this will fit in here. I had autozone test my motorcraft batteries and they said they tested ok (out of truck). When I get in the truck I turn the scangauge on (cold start) and it says FICM is at 48.5 batt volt at 12.6 then I turn the key on the FICM drops to 42 then within 4 seconds is back up to 48.5 - 49 and the batt volts drop to lowest of 10.9 crank the truck and it turns over 3 or 4 times and fires up fine. After its started the FICM stays 48.5 - 49 all day long even up hill. So maybe batteries need replaced?? What do yall think? I want the diehard platinums but nobody within 200 miles carries them.
