ID my rear differential 1990 F350

Hi,

I just got this truck and know little of its history. My door post tag indicates axle 39...which I know is a 3.55 and 6,250# axle. The tag on the differential reads:

2 V122C
3 5510 2 9L 28

The differential has 12 cover bolts. So, I think this supports the notion that I have the original 3.55 differential. Is my ring gear size indicated in those numbers?

Does one refer to this differential as a "12-bolt __" Sterling"? Where the ___" is the diameter of the ring gear.

Thanks,

Roy

It's a sterling 10.25" full floating axle.

yup that tag shows it's the factory 3.55 open diff.sterling 10.25/axle code 39 door jam.1990.
this is the first generation sterling with the short pinion and yoke.
drain the fluid and pour in some synthetic 75w-140 and run 'er.
