85 F600 help 370 2v 3200EG carb EG/throttle issue

I'm working on an 85 F600 truck and the throttle body plates keep sticking closed. I rebuilt the carb and the throttle linkage works fine, but once I hook up the return springs, it seems like it pulls too far and the throttle plates stay closed. I opened up the electronic governor and the diaphragm is in pretty bad shape. no visible cracks, but it looks pretty stretched out.
I am going crazy trying to find parts for this thing. I found a kit that has everything, but its $65 and I only need the diaphragm. Can I disconnect the shaft and have the engine still run? Can I disconnect the EG? Any advice is greatly appreciated. I've been reading the forum for quite a bit working on this truck, and it has been very helpful. Thanks!

Wow, it's been a real long time since I worked on one of those, but it sounds like you are missing a spring. There was a small spring that holds the throttle blades open against the throttle lever on the side of the carburetor. As I remember, it's inside the governor housing. The diaphragm closes the throttle blades if the engine overspeeds.

How were you able to rebuild the carburetor without a kit? Any kit for a 2300G Holley should come with the governor diaphragm.

Joe, Thanks for the info. I just ended up getting a Holley rebuild kit for a 2300 carb, which was only $20, and mainly only had the gaskets I needed. The spring was still inside the governor housing, but the shaft was a little off compared to a picture I took before I disassembled it. I took the governor linkage apart and set the diaphragm back in, and the throttle plates have worked fine ever since. Quick spark plug change, and the truck was back in action! Thanks again for your info.

That explains it, you got a kit for a generic 2300. Glad to help out!
