Bottom sumping stock tank

Question for yall,

Anyone ever think of bottom sumping a stock tank? I've been getting starvation issues when I go wheeling with less than half a tank.

It looks like you could easily do it where the tank dips down as you can see in this picture

Is it possible? I've seen people do it with drag car tanks, they have the funky little wedge they weld on the back of the tank and put AN fittings in.

I can see the issue of catching it on something while offroading, but maybe a little skidplate could be made? Just throwing things out there.

Instead of bottom sumping the tank, what about installing a "flop tube"?
These are used in aerobatic aircraft among other uses.
Basically it's adding a flexible section of hose to the siphon tube and a weighted pickup screen on the other end of the hose.

how much psi is your pump pulling? how are your fuel lines? rusted? maybe swap to rubber lines..
is your carb an offroad model? i run a holley truck avenger.
if its offroad only may wanna consider propane or fuel injectec.
never modified a tank

Drag racers will install a sump at the rear cuz that's where the fuel is sloshed at launch. When offroading, the rig will experience all sorts of angles (nose up, left, right, and nose down) so I don't think a drop-box sump will solve the issue.

Use a fuel cell or get a custom tank with a sump container and baffles/trap doors to contain fuel at the pickup tube.

Skid plate... use at least 3/16-inch 5052 sheet aluminum or 1/8-inch plate steel.

mike-hmmm... I like the floppy idea

73- My bad, I thought this was your truck at with the AN fittings https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post11104714 I have a holley blue pump, regulated at 6 psi. All new fuel lines, rubber and hard. It's just a holley 4160 model, but I notice cos if I park it for a sec on an angle I hear the pump get louder like its free spinning and my pressure gauge will almost flatline. It's a 75% street truck, and I don't have the dough to inject it right now.

HIO-thats true, but I'm not doing huge ascents/descents, so If I have 1/4 of a tank I should still get fuel at that part, at least in my mind. Yeah the skid plate will be beefy if this project takes off.

HIO Silver is right in that a sump most benefits drag style launches which is what I needed, in addition when running nitrous it's better to have an electric pump supply as opposed to mechanical. My tank was the original and rough so I bought as new tank to start with. The hard part is drilling holes in a new tank;

Next was removing the galvanize to allow welding the sump on, a friend who is a welder at work looked after that. Forming around the tank ridges was the slow part;

I pressure tested the tank to be sure it was tight but since it was off I sealed the inside as well, next was the POR15 kit that preps and paints, two coats;

Filtration is critical for a pump and I wanted the pump near the tank, the bracket worked great for my application;

Mounted and ready for abuse;
