no boost from turbo

i have had my tuck for over two years now 99 f350 7.3 as the years go by i seem to lose power. i can not hear the turbo spool up any more and lack of power and bad mpg's. i have changed the map sensor already and checked the turbo. shaft is good no play, boots going to intake are good, wastgate seems to move very little when i had turbo of, dont see or here any leaks on exhaust pipes behind turbo. any answers would be great as i am at a loss and is there anything i can do to prevent this on my 08 6.4 as i dont want problems with that truck

up pipes and replace the big oring between the turbo compressor backplate and the compressor housing. check for bolts backing out that hold the turbine housing and center cartridge together. try unplugging the red line on the wastegate actuator and plug it onto one of the i/c tube clamp bolts up on the drivers side of the spider and see if you build boost. got a gauge on it?

beyond that... build yourself a boost leak detector. check for leaks in the boost system.
most prone to leaking are the boots between spider and intake manifolds.

easy job just time consuming.

yes it has a guage in the truck that came with programmer. the bolts are tight between turbine and center as i took the turbo of to fix them as it was splitting with a gap between them' still had boost at that time since i tightened them i lost boost and like i said i have gone over it carefully to make sure it was put back together right. i had removed the turbo with the pedistal as it was my first time to repair it could i have srewed someting up as i put the pedistal back in?

Two things to check:

1) The spider is seated properly on the turbo and the o-ring is in place .

2) The dowel pin on the up-pipe collector is mated into the hole on the turbo exhaust intake flange.

The spider is the iron cross that sits in front of the turbo and has all the intercooler boots attached to it.

The up-pipes attach to the exhaust manifolds and run to the back of the turbo. They are metal not hoses.

The up-pipes go from each exhaust manifold up to the collector behind the turbo.

Here's a pick of a Van to give you the idea. Baby's Butt is a term we use for the up-pipe collector.

In this pic you can see soot on the left up-pipes. The gasket has failed and connection has become loose.

You need to build a boost leak detector!
