Hit and Run... grrrrr
Well early Sunday my neighbor happened to catch some one racing around the corner by my house and lost it on the ice, slamming into the fire-plug on the corner, then as he tried to get going again, he missed the telephone pole, but then slid into the back of my F350... Managed to just tilt the whole rear bumper up about an inch, no other damage, but put a good vertical crease at the edge near the right taillight... My neighbor had called it to the police, they had come out in the dark, but listed it as no damage... I went to the police station where another officer took pictures of my tailgate, and then I got an estimate, and took them a copy of that. Then went to the insurance company and filed with them as I have uninsured motorist coverage with $250 deductible.
The body shop quote was for $1500 to replace and repaint (Black) the tailgate.
My question to the guys that have put a later tailgate on their earlier superduties, what hinge change needs to be made, and what is the part number? I have found some great deals on used late model tailgates, and even found one in black! Will need to be shipped to Alaska, but then I can have the later, updated tailgate for the same price or less than having mine fixed!
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Garry in Kodiak, AK
PS: I had just turned around the truck on Saturday night to pull the snow-plow off due to the recent warmer weather. Had it been one night earlier, the Plow would have taken the hit, and it would have "can-opened" the whole side of whatever "White truck" hit me... Oh well, I guess that's why I pay for insurance....

I just picked up a 11 gate, and took off my 06 gate, which is black, If you were closer I would give you a smokin deal on it and you could have a great holiday with the rest.
But as the others have said just the driver side pivot needs to be replaced its like a 12.00 part from the dealer.
