Part Number Help - EGR Tube w/DPFE 1996 F-150 4.9

Despite my best efforts, I ended up having to cut my EGR tube off so I could remove the head on my truck. I didn't want to, but it was either that or twist the tube off.

So, I need help with either a repair solution or the part number for my particular EGR tube. It isn't F5TZ-9D477-E as found on fordparts.com (even with my VIN) or Amazon. I've seen something about "California Emissions" style EGR tube and I hope that doesn't mean I can't find a new one.

My truck is a 1996 4.9 5-speed short bed, OBDII with MAF. It does have the DPFE sensor and not the EGR position sensor that bolts to the EGR valve itself.

Thank you!

From my 1996 Ford Parts Catalog:
F5TZ-9D477-E is F150,F250,F350 5.8L Calif w/E4OD

There are only 2 9D477's listed for the 4.9L:
F250,F350 w/C3 3 spd Trans F6TZ9D477-RA
F150,F250 w/E4OD or manual Trans F6TZ9D477-P (Includes 9P761 hoses. Orifice 7mm.) [Note: For the DPFE System]

Should be like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/F6TZ9D477P-T...item51a3f42bf4

Does is matter that the picture is for a V-8 and not the 4.9? I spoke with my local Ford Dealer (after I posted this and before your reply) and he also came up with P#F6TZ-9D477-P but his picture was also incorrect. On top of that, it showed an EGR valve that had a position sensor on it, not at all what is used in the DPFE system. He said he would get one in so we could look at it.

What are your thoughts?

And, thank you for your help!

The picture in my Parts Catalog was wrong but it states as being a "typical" application. The picture I posted is what fordparts and the eBay seller, ford-parts-depot, show and it is of a 4.9L with the DPFE and not EGR position sensor.

I hate it when pictures don't match up! LOL! Well, I guess I'll find out tomorrow if that P# will do the trick. Thank you for looking this up for me, Steve!

If you cut it cleanly, might it be possible to slide a fire-proof sleeve over the junction and hose-clamp it? I think some of them are air-tight.

I had thought of that, actually. Thought of a couple of different ways to make a repair work. If the part numbers that Steve came up with don't pan out, I just might have to start engineering a repair. I hope the parts work out.

As long as you cut it in the straight area you may could go to a hydraulics store and get a compression union to join it back. Stainless steel union would be preferable but brass would work ........... IF you're lucky enough for the tube to be a standard size.

Got the part in at my local Ford dealer today. Here is what it looks like:

As you can see, it looks a wee bit different than the photo, but this is the correct part. It looks like I will have to order this off of eBay through Ford-Parts-Depot (or through the other seller) as my local dealer won't go off the MSRP of $82.95, just shy of $90 with tax. I hate the fact he ordered it for me just to confirm this is the correct part, but I also can't justify spending $30-40 more than necessary. So, I'll be ordering this off eBay.

Thanks again for all of your help and suggestions and to Steve for confirming the correct P# and source locations for the part!

Jolly good show! Show him the eBay ad from another FORD dealer & maybe he'll come off his price. Glad it's ID'ed though!

You'll have to try to find it via one of the NOS parts vendors. The part is discontinued from Ford.
Green Sales NOS Parts
or
www.nospartsltd.com NOS Parts Ltd is an independent parts warehouse that specializes in providing Obsolete New Old Stock Ford parts for Ford and Lincoln - Mercury cars and trucks.

Otherwise, you'll have to find it off a junkyard truck. The part is specific to the 1996 4.9L

Do a search on car-part.com for a local junkyard. I'd search for "Engine" first to see who has a 1996 4.9L, then call 'em up to see if they've got the tube you need.
