Driving down the road I stopped at a stop light. I heard a big click and the motor died. Moreover, the red light on the dashboard went on, showing that the suspension air bags were deflating. This was a week ago, and I have not been able to get the air bags pumped up again.
Can anyone help? Is it a fuse? If so, where is it?
We pull our 38 foot 5th wheel with this truck so we need the air bags working. We do not know who might work on this particular problem.
We are newbies concerning fixing the air bags and other mechanical difficulties. Along with this I have chemo brain, so haven't been able to think what to do.
Sounds like something broke and possibly cut an air line. The Fontaine package is aftermarket so there probably isn't very much documentation available for troubleshooting.
You probably want to inspect the engine, transmission and drive line for any obvious signs of damage. I presume you have an onboard compressor so check that as well. If it's engine driven then you may have a problem with the drive belt. If you have a diesel engine, then it's possible that you may have an engine driven air pump mounted in the 2nd alternator location (although this is not very common....). Here is a photo showing both alternators. The secondary location is down low on the passenger (right) side.
