Unhappy New member, first post 2000 F-150 5.4 V8 cuts out when trying to maintain speed Has Code 340

My truck, 2000 F-150 5.4 V8, has a cil code P340 camshaft position sensor. Changed out sensor, but it still cuts out when accelerating slowly or trying to maintain speed. Should there be any voltage coming from the PCM to the CPS and if so what should it be? I pulled the sensor and checked for an AC voltage spike when i swing a piece of metal across the end of it. It reads about the same as a new one. When this first started, I noticed that it would not kick into O/D and the light on the shift column didn't come on. The fuse was blown and I found a short in the wiring in the steering column. Repaired that and replaced the fuse. It will now shift into O/D, but it still cuts out

Help

Ok, this was my first post, so somebody tell me what I did wrong. It's been several days and no replies. I have been searching the posts and I think I may have a coil problem. It's like shutting off the key for just a second then back on. If anyone has any suggestions, please help

The CMP sensor should be a variable reluctor sensor with two wires. With the sensor disconnected and KOEO, check the harness side of the connector for close to battery voltage at the green wires's pin.
And then, with key OFF check the resistance of the blue wire's pin and a the negative post of the battery. Should be less than ~5 ohms.

Thanks for the reply, there's no voltage that I can tell. Where does it come from? All of the fuses are good.

Follow closely.
This sensor has a common 12 volt feed through a fuse from battery.
This feed is common with at least 7 other sensors.
The camshaft gear high spot passes by the sensor generating a signal 'to' the PCM not from it.
This sensor times the fuel injection in the same fire order sequence as ignition except at an earlier time before ignition occurrs.
I would think you have a harness or plugup issue that is intermittant if only the code 340 is set unless there is something else we don't know about at this time.
You might even check the PCM main connector for being tight.
To see this circuit look at a Haynes manuel pags 12-19/20.
Good luck.

Get your cause for the 340 cleared then see what you have left or you just chase confusion from expectation.

Did you ever find the issue in your truck? Mine is doing the same thing. It is a 2001 f250 5.4 with 195K on it. Very clean. Was a trade in to a dealership so I know the engine was cleaned. I changed plugs and boots thinking it was just a tune up issue with the miles but it still cuts out. Ive got some codes but all have to deal with the throttle position sensor. Thats another issue Im straitening out. Be nice to hear from you on this..... Thanks, Eric from Kansas
