Do you keep log books on your trucks?

I'm thinking of doing it for mine.

I haven't always keep journals but it has become a part of life now. Personal, work related, aviation, there's an accident log book in my Subaru. In some cases, like with the accident log book, it is a way of calming me down; take notes, be professional.

The truck, to me, is less than a week old.....and I have plenty of blanks around. So I think I might start one up for the 250.

I do the same thing, I use a app called Gas Cubby on my iPhone. Keeps track of everything and alerts you when service it due.

I try to, but I get lazy and forget to log every repair, project or fluid change.

It IS a good habit to get into, you just have to be disciplined.

I keep a small spiral bound note pad in the glovebox of each vehicle. I record date, milage, $/gallon, and gallons purchased for each refueling. From the backside of the book going forward I keep the repair record - date, milage, repair, who performed it, sometimes cost also. Helps with tires, oil, batteries, etc.

When I had the battery replaced in my 93 F150, I discovered it had been cranking the engine for 17 years! No way to realize that without the records!

I wish I would've done this when I bought the truck originally, but I didn't (that whole disciplined thing Darren mentioned), so I never started. I haven't reset Trip B so it still has my overall mpg's, gallons used, etc from the day I picked up the truck at the dealer.

All my work has been done by my dealership (with exception to my mods) so it's all tracked on the my Ford website (or whatever it's called). I have my receipts too...

Oh yes I have a book just in case in goes in for warranty work and Ford says I neglected it. I have never on any vehicle gone over 4400 miles on a oil change. When I traded in the Diesel, I left the log in the glove box, I hope the dealer didn't take it out.

I do what schoaty does, I keep a small spiral notebook and record all mileage when fuel is put in, date, cost for the fillup; mileage and date when oil is put in or changed with oil filter, and when fuel filter changes are done. I also note tire rotation mileage. I do this for the Excursion and my F350; I can't get my wife to do it for her F150 so I resort to trickery and regularly check the mileage and under the hood stuff for her when she isn't looking .

I also keep a binder log book for my trailers, record all mileage for any trip they take, any services or repairs done, washes and when I last charged the batteries for the winch. It helps to keep me aware of when I am due for a service and I'm able to add up annual costs associated with ownership.

It helped when I had a blowout West of San Antonio in 2010 that damaged the wheelwell and skirt. The insurance company questioned when I put the tires on, were they rotated and when the trailer was last serviced. I showed him the logbook I keep, and ended up giving him a copy of the two log book pages that verified the new tires and maintenance schedule, he settled nicely for the repairs, about $1400 bucks.

I have a 3 ring binder that I use to keep track of everything. It has the receipts for every part I had bought and installed on my truck, every repair/maintenance done by a mechanic, etc. I also have an Excel spreadsheet I use to track fuel fill-ups, mileage, average speed, etc. I throw away the fuel receipts once I record them in my spreadsheet. I've got a record of almost every fill-up my truck has had in 6 years/100,000 miles.

Suprisingly I don't really keep track of oil changes/fuel filter changes in any particular way. I just change the oil around every 5000 miles, and the fuel filters every other oil change. I change the coolant filter about every 3rd or 4th oil change. I did get oil analysis done every other oil change for a while, but haven't done it recently.

I started one for all 9 of our vehicles each seperate ones on a microsoft word document it is always with me. It helps with logging things and makes me know how much we have invested into our trucks.

I keep a record of all expenses related to my trucks. Everything, since day one.

I've spent more money on fuel than the original purchase price of the vehicle plus expenses. That is a sobering thought....

For oil changes I just write down the mileage and date of change and put the little paper on my gauge cluster right next to the odometer.

The rest of the maintenance and parts I just store away in my brain.
