Fuel pump dying

Fuel pump dying
Howdy....
While doing some PM yesterday, I ran a pressure test on the fuel system and found that the fuel pressure is minimal. Changing the filter didn't help.
So I went to rockauto.com and priced a new fuel pump. The Motorcraft part is $320! Yikes!!! This is a '97 F150 5.4 4x4 with 198K on her. The pump price is approaching the real market value of the truck!
Anyway, does anyone know of a good equivalent pump that's friendlier on the wallet?
Thanks,
Bass

What pressure did you measure and under what specific test conditions?
You did notice that the Motorcraft was a complete assembly that included the sender, didn't you? If you only need a pump, they're available separately aftermarket.
I've used Airtex pumps in both my old SHOs and my Conturd and they worked well. I wouldn't hesitate to put one in my truck should the need arise. YMMV.

Well, in the interest of full disclosure, I didn't run the test and don't know the numbers. A Ford mechanic friend ran the tests.
The truck is throwing a "lean" code after running for a few minutes. No vacuum leak was found and a new fuel filter didn't change things. The fuel trim voltages are out of whack, too, with the long trim settling in at about 20.
