anybody know what this tube is for?

There's one of these sticking out of the corner of each side of the cowl on my 48 F1. Are they drains? They look like a piece of steel brake tubing.

This subject was brought up a long time ago, some trucks had them, some didn't. I don't remember what the consensus was on what it was.

From what I remember of that old thread they are draisn for the front windshield channel/ Some trucks have them others don't. I think it came down to what factory the truck came from wether it had the drains or not.

My 49 from the Dallas plant does not have them

They are one of the features that make 1948's "special". They are drains for the corners of the windshield, under the rubber, and are only found on 48's. Ford must have decided they weren't necessary, and dropped them for 1949.

...Or ineffective and wasn't worth the cost of installation. I can see where that would be a time consuming (expensive) bit to install. I also can see them filling up with dirt, debris, or windshield sealer and not getting the job done.

Mine was plugged with rust so I sealed it and left it in place.
