1989 Fuel Problem

I have a V-8 fuel injected 1989 F250 4WD that will not start. This is a work truck that I don't use very much. Went to use it last week, started up ran about 5 minutes and quit, tried to restart and it ran about 20 seconds before it quit and now will not even start at all. Had gas, checked fuel filter and it seemed to be blocked, replaced with new filter, Checked main fuel pump seems to be OK (Runs). Getting good gas flow on the outlet side of fuel filter. Getting spark and it will start up on a couple of sprays of ether but won't run without ether. Are there any other fuel relays/filters past the fuel filter that might keep it from being started or what should I be checking next? Any ideas?? Thanks

There are injector relays, and also a fuel pump relay. You can try renting a noid light kit from the parts store and see if the injectors are firing.

I checked (what i believe) the fuel relay. Is it above the brake pedal? and is it called the fuel cut-off switch/inertia switch? There is a button/switch on top of the relay. And the button was pressed in. Thats all i did to check the fuel relay switch.

Should I take my multi meter to it? or with the button pressed in and being able to hear both fuel pumps turn on, is enough of a test?

Also where is the injector relay located? I do not know what it looks like. Thank you.

Also, i am going to disconnect the fuel line after the filter this weekend to see if fuel flows thru. While i am down there, i will replace the filter and the pressure relief valve. Another thing i noticed was when i depressed the shradder valve (with ignition on) no fuel came out. The truck is 50 miles away from me, so when i go out there, i make it worth it.

I bought the truck and drove it 150 miles toward home (with 50 miles still left to go) and it cut off and died on me. it will start with starting fluid. but no stay running without fluid. hence not fuel at shradder valve.

The fuel pump and the injector relay are located under the hood. In the same spot as the EEC- IV connector to read or check codes it. Its just a square relay. I believe the fuel pump is brown and the injector green. Or that's how it is on my ride.

Hey bigray what year is your truck and which engine does it have? Does it have two fuel tanks or just one? Do you hear the fuel pump running for a second or so when you turn the ignition switch on?

If the high pressure pump mounted on the frame runs for one second when the key is turned on as the post above said then both relays and the fuel cut-off switch/inertia switch are all OK.

There is no shut thing as a injector relay.
One of the relays is the EEC Power relay with the brown bottom that powers the fuel pump relay coil, the computer and all the engine EEC solenoids along with the injectors.
The other relay is the Fuel pump relay with a green bottom that sends power to the fuel circuit from the yellow wire at its base. The yellow wire is powered by a fuse link at the battery side of the starter solenoid.

If the high pressure pump on the frame and the low pressure boost pump in the selected tank runs for one second when the key is turned on and you have no fuel pressure at the fuel rail then you more than likely have a bad selector valve on the frame or a blocked fuel lines/filters.
