This morning I lost my father...and...my best friend. Pete...as he was fondly known by all...even though his real name was Edward...passed at 6:00 this morning. My sister and I were at his side. He was rushed to the hospital on 11/17 with mounting health issues. On Thanksgiving Day...knowing his situation was hopeless...we decided to institute end of life comfort measures. He fought the good fight...but...in the end...his multiple health issues were just too much to overcome.
In January of 1945 at the age of 17...he joined the US Navy...serving in Guam and the Phillipines as a Machinist Mate aboard the USS MASSEY. While on leave in NYC he came upon a lovely young lady in a park in Brooklyn...2 weeks later...they were married. Together they raised 6 children...with both of them working more than one job at a time to make ends meet. He was devastated when the love of his life suddenly passed 12 years ago after 54 years of marriage. Finally...they are together again.
RIP Pete...you are sadly missed. I will always cherish my many memories.

Ken, please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of your dad "Pete". I do believe that involvement in activities and society are the best medicines and tributes to those that we loved who have been raised to a higher realm.
