I have a 99 f-150 4x4 Off Road edition with a 5.4 . it has 82,000 miles. I just bought a camper and it seems to me that the truck losses a lot of power even on slight incliens. is this common for these trucks?"
The camper is only 3800lbs
I had a 1991 with a 351 (5.8) and it did the same thing when pulling my 3950lb. boat. I now have the truck below and it pulls liek it isn't even there.
Was down in Myrtle Beach a couple of weeks ago for Bike week and while down there, my buddies bought a 23' trailer. I pulled the trailer with 4 Harleys in it, and 5 people in the cab, and my truck pulled it great.
I thank you all for your information. I did take the truck out of overdride, this helped a little. over the weekend I replaced the fuel filter and spark plugs. I believe the filter was an original from Ford. When I opened it up I was surprized that gas cluld flow through it. I have not towed since the changes but just by driving it now I can feel a big difference. I am sure my changes will help.
Thanks again.
