EGT TEMP

Whats a safe temp to turn off MOTOR FOR MY EGT TEMP? Empty and after
a pull or tow? 300* 260*

Theres no magic number.

I remember on an older tractor it said 2 minutes, but technology has evolved way past that.

I think as long as it sits idle for a bit after a hard pull, your helping it last longer, that's all I'd worry about.

I always shut mine down around 275-285, anything under 300 i think is fine, just my .02...

300...maybe 350. If I am towing and just re-fueling I dont shut it down. Even if the EGT's are down it is way to hot under that hood.

Oh heck yeah, hard on electronics too I imagine.

I wish there was an electrical assist to the thermostat, so if you were pulling in to park, you could adjust the thermostat temp by 50 degrees or so on the last couple hundred feet before hand.

When towing cross country in the dead of summer even the outside of the fenders would burn your hand to the touch.

I don't think the 6.4 requires too much of a cool down. The EGT's should drop enough when pulling off a highway and driving rural roads. Now if you pull directly off the freeway with high EGT's and pull right into a motel or truck stop, I'd say <300 degrees and you'll be fine.
