Adjusting throttle cable/gas pedal pressure

How do you adjust the gas pedal pressure? My gas pedal is really stiff. I've checked the cable and looked for kinks and such, even popped off the cable to see if the carb was sticking - so how do you adjust the spring that pushes the throttle connector that attaches to the carb? Do you somehow remove the spring and put on a weaker one or does it have something to do with turning the six sided metal thing that goes through the intake support? It gives my right leg a cramp after 1 hour of steady driving, so i kind of want to fix this!
