Water pump blew up today

So, my water pump blew up today. Looks to be the original.

Need a replacement.

However, it appears that there are two different versions of replacements. I am wondering if one superceeds the other or not.

This one doesn't have the bolt on lower tube that mine currently has. But it looks the same otherwise. I am assuming this just replaces the pump and the lower bolt on tube.

This is the one mine has:

The problem is that the 2nd one is 7-10 days out. The upper one I can have later today.

What kind of truck are you working on? It "blew up"? Could we get pics of the carnage?

The fan/pump bearing disintegrated. I will get pics when I pull it.

Mine looks like the upper one and i helped my brother put one on his truck. It had the one with the bolt on tube and we put one on that looked like the upper one. His is a 95 also. My guess is they just made one less spot for leaks.

Yes, that is the one I ended up putting on as well. I got it from Napa, so hopefully it will be a decent water pump.

I wire wheeled the coolant temp sending unit to clean off some rust and corrosion(on the plug side). I noticed on the way home it read higher than it used to, but was a lot more consistant. It basically stayed on the R in NORMAL about halfway. It used to move between the N and the R prior.

Also, while in there I noticed a 203* thermostat too. It tested out fine, so I left it in there. I also replaced the thermostat inlet tube with a new one as well. Drove it home last night with zero leaks, and hopefully it stays that way for a long time.

The biggest PITA was getting the fan clutch off of the old pump. Just so every one knows: its LEFTY-LOOSY to get it off. I was not able to break it loose on the truck and had to heat it up the nut with the torch to break it off of the old pump. I also built my own "wrench" to get it off too.

Unfortunately, I didn't take pics as the carnage was inside the pump itself. But, I can tell you that the impeller actually fell off of the pump shaft when I pulled the pump off the motor. And, the fan was wobbling badly, so I am really lucky it didn't take out the radiator and serp belt.
