$700 Alternator replacement cost Firestone
My 2008 f350 SD Diesel battery light came on my way home from work....I believe it was due to drivng through a large mudpuddle or standing water in the streets of seattle....The first time I drove through it....splashed water everywhere...nothing happened....The second time water splashed all over the windshied and truck....nothing happened....I arrived at work....8 to 12 minutes after I went through the water...turned off the engine...worked my 12hr shift....then started my truck to go home...noticed battery light on...dash says check charging system...Its thanksgiving...no ones open....Friday....no dealer service open...its pouring down rain....I have no place at home to do the job myself....I phone around...get local firestone to replace alterntor...30 hours later and a $700 bil plus a $100 dollars for car rental that should be refundable...it was a deposit...Firestone actually paid the car rental....2 attemps installed and each time they said it was the wrong alternator...Then they said I have a special charging system..one alternator & 2 batters...Only 150 trucks in the USA have these installed....but i was lucky they found one for me...alternator cost $504.19 shop labor $220 minus $100 black friday sale...tax...$59.99...shop supplies 7.20... total $691.38...so is this reasonable....I am googleing alternator costs....I dont think they replaced it with motor craft...probably after market remanufactured....what do you guys think....Did I get conned...thank you for reading and replying....Happy Holidays...

Well rockauto goes up to almost $350 for a motorcraft down to about $100 (after core refund) for a company I have never heard of. Being a day no one seems to want to work and what a pain these engine are to work on I'd say that price is probably about right, bet a dealer would be even more. I think I would have had to take it away when they mentioned the dual battery thing though.

I have the same set up on my 2008. One alt and two batteries. I don't see how driving through water was the reason. Probably just coincidence. I drive through mud and water getting to hunting spots that cover the truck with no issues. Maybe your batteries were going bad and that killed the alternator.

I can see that in a sense, but if you take the sentence as it is, he's simply sharing his knowledge that newer Duramax engine have dual alternators. I didn't think he was implying that Ford didn't offer it.

Didn't bother me either, but I can see what the comment was about. Nothing bothers me but the Alabama football team. Go Georgia
