Cheap code readers aren't worth it. You get what you pay for. Everyone seems to love scan gauge II they are about $160 at Auto zone

Agree whole heartedly with Mike's post above. Look into a Superchips handheld tuner-code reader from Sinester Performance Diesel bargain basement closeouts, they had them a while back for a hundred bucks and they work on our trucks, I have one for my 7.3 and love it. Remember, your looking for your year model 6.0 handheld.

i took the truck to auto zone to get the check engine light code
the guy told me it had an egr code

after the engine light came on
when the truck is idling it rebs up for like half a second every minute or so and when you are driving and come to a stop it also rebs up

could this be the egr valve?

i was also told to remove the egr valve and start the engine and reb the engine to high rpm for about 10 sec to clean the carbon build up.
is this true and do i leave the egr plugged in or unplugged while rebing the engine?
