diagnosing ruptured fuel pump diaphragm?

'65 with the 300, stock fuel pump (with the upright canister)

i'm thinking i may have a ruptured fuel pump diaphragm, but i don't know how to verify.

how much fuel should be in the canister? if i turn the truck off, wait five minutes, and unscrew the canister...almost *nothing* comes out. less than an ounce.

C4AZ-9365-B .. Corrogated Paper Cartridge Fuel Filter-fits into cannister that threads onto fuel pump (Motorcraft FG-1A) / Available from Ford/autoparts stores.

Applications: Myriad 1964/76 I-6 & V8 FoMoCo vehicles.

Steel line to fuel pump clogged up, or rubber hose that connects tube from fuel tank to steel line kinked or rotted inside.

i drained the oil...it reeked of gasoline, and was very thin.
i slapped a new fuel pump on over the weekend, i'm going to run it a few times in the garage, then drain it again.

when i shut the truck down, i can hear the oil running back down into the pan- kinda freaks me out.
