I got a 5.0 in my truck with nothing but a cam and exhaust on it and it's a hugh difference over stock, just wish I had the $$ to put 4.10s in the axles.

its really hard to say. what other mods do you have done to your truck? are you looking to run against one on the 1/4 mile or keep up on the highway? i mean you gotta give some more details. im no "speed freak" i like a working truck. and i havnt seen many stock lightnings so its a hard call.

conanski recomended to me the 31-255-5 from comp cams. im sure if you searched through the forums you could find what others have done and use that as a good basis. also summit has a tech line, my buddy uses it quite often for his s10 350 build.

but it says compatible to a 95 302w not a 96 whats that about? is it because mine has mass air?

So to just match one of those you need the same combination or a 5.0 with more peak HP(not a problem) and more gearing(4.56).

Not in a '96 that's gonna be used as a drag racer I wouldn't, I'd suggest the Comp 35-320-8.

Mine is a daily driver but it sees the strip.. I'm obviously not worried about gas mileage I just want this truck to haul ***... But what about those heads I picked out?
