Look at your downpipes. Misaligined is probaby the issue.

Are your tailpipes black? If so, I would look at a cracked DPF if you are still stock. Had the same issues, March of 2011, DPF was replaced and no issues of fumes after that.

Like senix said, check the downpipe, an important area that could leak enough to cause the smell. Senix has been around these boards a long time and has a good sense of issues on these trucks.

Nope...just burn alot of fuel and get lucky..there is something you pointed out though and that is the tailpipes. Maybe unrelated or related. If they are dirty then maybe it is tuned or the DPF maybe bad as well.

DPF cracking would be on the inside. The materials. You can't tell. Only the black tail pipes are the sign.

Exactly, my pipes were black, so I did a visual on the DPF and was showing no cracks, but the Diesel Tech did some test and showed leaking backpressure? and also the tell tail sign of black exhaust.

Should it be showing some code. There are sensors on both sides of the DPF. If it is the DPF how do the fumes get into the truck? Not being a smartass just trying to understand.

Sounds like the v-clamp at the turbo down pipe may have came loose or one of the up pipes from the exhaust manifold to the turbo my be starting to fail. The up pipes are not constructed well and have several flaws in there design which can cause premature faliure.

Nope, not taking it that way, we are all learning here. My truck never threw a code. I just had fumes, especially during regen. When I came to a stop and it was in regen, there were times I thought I was going to choke. Other times was not as bad when not in regen but could still smell it. I understand as I am the same as you, if its cracked and it does not crack outside then how does it fume. To tell you the truth, I don't know. But I do know after the new DPF went in, it has been all well.

2 days at the dealer nothing found but my wallet is 2 hundred lighter.
Remember my orginal post when i bought the truck
When i bought the truck the CAC was bad the dealer changed it and put the latest tune on and replaced the fuel filters. They say that is why the tails are black. I have been using the motorcraft fuel additive with every fill up like the tech suggested. Could this be the problem with the black tails just getting it cleaned out.
